Join Spiva for a special Homeschool Field Trip Day featuring our beloved Third Grade Collaboration! Students (recommended ages 8–10) will explore the galleries, create art inspired by Jane Troup, and experience the excitement of becoming an exhibiting artist in our “Mystery Gallery.”
Homeschool Field Trip Day: Third Grade Collaboration at Spiva
Friday, February 13 | 12:00–2:00 PM
The Third Grade Collaboration has been a staple in Spiva’s winter programming for over 20 years. Each year, we welcome more than 1,700 students into our classrooms and galleries for a day of art education centered around our featured Main Gallery artist. Seven school districts, over 20 schools, 80 third grade classes and homeschool students make up this collaborative effort.
This year, students will create artwork inspired by our Main Gallery artist, Jane Troup, and her exhibition Return to Innocence. This program cultivates a memorable experience that blends creativity, learning, and exploration through a hands-on art project in our studios and guided discovery in the galleries.
One of the most exciting moments of the day happens when students enter the Jo Mueller Reserve Gallery—also known to many students as the “Mystery Gallery”—and realize they aren’t just visitors… they’re exhibiting artists. The awe on their faces is a powerful reminder of what this program can do for young minds and why the arts matter so deeply.
Each student will also receive a take-home art kit to continue creating after their visit.
Parents should dress their child(ren) in clothes that it is okay to get ink on.
