Start your engines and grab the cardboard! As part of Summer Movie on the Green: Wheels and Reels, Spiva Center for the Arts is inviting artists, families, kids, and creative grown-ups to enter the Wheels & Reels Cardboard Cruiser Contest. Build your own cardboard car and bring it to the Cornell Complex on Thursday, June 18 for a fun “car show” on the green before our outdoor movie.
Entries may be large enough for a child to sit in or smaller, shoebox-size creations. Cars should be made from recyclable materials such as cardboard, paper mâché, poster board, construction paper, or tissue paper. Tape and glue are allowed, but no metal, please.
Age Categories:
- Ages 5–8
- Ages 9–12
- Ages 13–17
- Adults 18+
Judging will take place before the movie, with fun prizes and bragging rights awarded in each category.
Thursday, June 18
Gates open: 7:30 pm
Judging: approximately 7:45–8:00 pm
Movie begins: 8:30 pm
Tickets are free | $5 suggested donation
Bring your cardboard cruiser, enjoy lawn games and concessions, and settle in for a summer movie night celebrating the 100th anniversary of Route 66 and the 20th anniversary of Disney and Pixar’s Cars.
Kids are invited to join us on Sunday, June 14, 2-4pm for a hands-on make day where they can design and decorate a cardboard cruiser to enter in the Wheels & Reels Cardboard Cruiser Contest – check out more info HERE.
