George A. Spiva Center for the Arts Board of Directors President, Angela Vorhees, is pleased to announce that Heather Lesmeister has accepted the position of Executive Director. Ms. Lesmeister joins Spiva from Missouri Southern State University where she led communications, marketing and external relations during her tenure. In these roles she managed communications, public relations functions and marketing strategies in support of the institution’s strategic goals, plans and aspirations.

She brings extensive experience in fundraising, event management, engagement and administration, as well as a commitment to visual arts. Her career includes a thirteen-year tenure at Freeman Health System where she was the assistant director of development and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals program director.

She holds an BA in Graphic Communications from Missouri Southern State University. A Webb City high school graduate, she, her husband Kile and son Maddox continue to reside in Webb City.

Lesmeister says “I am so thrilled to be joining Spiva Center for the Arts as its Executive Director and honored for the trust placed in me to lead the center forward. I am delighted to work with such a passionate and creative team, board, artists, and volunteers to advance the mission and vision of Spiva.

With the move to the Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex this fall it’s an exciting time. It’s such an opportunity to honor Spiva’s rich history while looking toward the future. Spiva is a place for the entire community to come together to experience vibrant artistic expression, art education and outreach programs. Through expanded initiatives and offerings, we will continue to bring in broader audiences and share the joy that is Spiva.”

Lesmeister will be replacing Interim Executive Director Susan Adams, who will be retiring in June.

Spiva Center for the Arts was established in 1947 and celebrates the creative experience through community outreach, in-house classes for all ages, and by showcasing both regional and national artists in revolving exhibitions.
