In this fun and tactile camp, kids will learn the foundational skills of working with clay. Students will get hands-on experience with both the pottery wheel and hand-building techniques. Campers will throw on the wheel at least three times and complete at least two unique hand-built projects. Perfect for young artists who love to get their hands dirty and explore the possibilities of pottery!
Projects will be fired and ready for pick up approximately 1 month after the camp is finished. A Spiva staff member will notify you via email and by phone when pottery pieces are available to be picked up.
About the Instructors:
Made of Clay Pottery is a vibrant pottery studio founded by local artists Doug and Christina Lorenzen in 1992 and assisted by their daughter Stephanie Roy. They have a shared passion for clay and a desire to foster creativity in young minds blossomed into a unique opportunity that offers engaging pottery classes for students. Christina’s decades of experience as a potter, combined with Stephanie’s energetic teaching style and knack for connecting with kids, creates a supportive and inspiring environment where budding artists can learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing. From squishing their first lump of clay to proudly glazing their masterpieces, children at the Spiva Class classes, not only develop artistic skills but also gain confidence, patience, and a sense of accomplishment!
