Weft | Monthly Community Craft Night
About Weft:
Weft is a free monthly craft night for grown-ups who miss making things with their hands, crave genuine community, and want to be around people creating simply for the joy of it.
Held the last Tuesday of every month at Spiva Center for the Arts, each gathering features a new hands-on project—such as indigo dyeing, zine making, eraser stamp carving, and collaborative collages. Whether you bring a friend or come solo, you’ll leave with new connections. There’s no experience required, no pressure to be “good,” and no cost to attend—just a welcoming space to try, make, and be.
The Story Behind Weft:
Weft began when two friends realized the kind of space they’d always longed for in Joplin didn’t exist—so they decided to create it. The seeds were planted over a decade ago, when they were teenagers taking weekly art classes at Spiva. But the dream of a cozy, low-barrier, community-rooted creative space isn’t theirs alone; it’s something that has lived in many people’s hearts for years. Weft is what happens when those threads finally weave together into something grounding, playful, and nourishing.
Our Vision:
Weft aims to be more than just a once-a-month event. We want to build lasting creative momentum, offer a soft landing for anyone feeling disconnected, intimidated, or new to the area, and bridge the gap between Spiva and Joplin’s vibrant DIY scene. Someday, we hope to have a space of our own. For now, you’ll find us here, one Tuesday at a time, weaving something together.
