78th Joy Spiva Cragin Membership Show

Spiva’s annual showcase of members’ work is celebrating 78 years! One of Spiva’s original exhibits, the work is a proclamation of our members’ hearts, minds, skills, and passions. Spiva’s members present their best work in this annual showcase of regional talent. 100+ area artists provide pieces of several mediums, including ceramics, watercolor, wood, oils, metal, photography, and mixed media. Awards are presented for adults and youth categories.

Open to all Spiva members currently in good standing. Spiva members may enter a maximum of ONE ORIGINAL ARTWORK—no copies or reproductions—in any medium. Artwork previously shown at Spiva is not eligible for this exhibit no matter in which gallery it was shown.

Artwork dropoff: October 16-18 | 10am-5pm
Artwork pickup: December 19, 4-6pm | December 20, 10am-5pm

About the Juror:

Sarah Buhr is Curator of Art at the Springfield Art Museum. In managing the Curatorial Department, Buhr oversees the preservation and maintenance of the permanent collection, acquisitions, exhibitions, staff, and budget. She has been with the Museum since 2007 and was previously Curator of Exhibitions. During her tenure at the Springfield Art Museum, Buhr has curated exhibitions on the work of Nick Cave, Linda Lopez, Rose O’Neill, Philip Pearlstein, Roger Shimomura, and Jordan Eagles, among others, and originated the biennial exhibition Four by Four: Midwest Invitational which highlighted emerging artists from the four-state region of Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas. Her development of the Museum’s permanent collection has resulted in notable acquisitions including a site-specific installation by Anne Lindberg, a Dale Chihuly Persian chandelier, and a donation of fifty-nine works by Rose O’Neill.

 

Buhr holds a Master of Arts degree in History and a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies from the University of Missouri – St. Louis and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from the University of Missouri – Columbia, where she graduated summa cum laude.
