Chris Kent: Remnants

May 30 - June 28, 2025

Jo Mueller Reserve Gallery

In Chris’ work, he blends illustrative and abstract techniques to navigate the complex landscapes of memory, identity, and perception. Graffiti’s raw energy, music’s rhythmic pulse, and the fluidity of architecture and design serve as his primary influences. Each element brings something unique to the table: graffiti, with its defiance and immediacy; music, with its ability to transcend the physical world and tap into emotion; architecture, with its structural elegance and the way it shapes our experience of space; and design, with its obsession with balance, form, and function.

His process is intuitive, often starting with a series of marks or shapes that feel personal but open-ended. As he layers and deconstructs these elements, he allows the work to evolve, shifting between representation and abstraction. The result is a dialogue between the controlled and the chaotic, the familiar and the unknown. It’s in this tension that he finds freedom—the space where his past and present, his rural roots and urban influences, can exist in harmony.

Chris is based in Tulsa, OK – recently moving back to his home state after being in Seattle for nearly 2 decades. His journey is marked by perseverance and resilience. From his early exposure to art through family members, and overcoming physical injuries that derailed his career as a mechanic, his story demonstrates the power of determination in pursuing one’s creative calling. The evolution of his artistic practice, from graphic design to fine art, further adds depth to his narrative. After studying fine art with a focus on painting at Rogers University, Chris faced a series of challenges, including physical injuries and difficulties finding success as a multi discipline artist in Seattle. This led him to explore graphic design, a field he initially knew little about. Through a rigorous program at Seattle Central Creative Academy, Chris developed a critical eye and a deeper understanding of his creative process, which he has since applied to his fine art and commercial work.
