Born in Springfield, Missouri, in 1950, Larry Clingman has been an artist for as long as he can remember—captivated by the challenge of translating the world around him into paintings that speak through their own visual language.
A professional commercial artist by trade—serving as a designer, illustrator, creative director, and graphic studio owner—Clingman has maintained a lifelong pursuit of fine art. His paintings reveal a fascination with contrasts: shape and color, soft and hard edges, light and shadow, solid and texture. Through this interplay of opposites, he captures the quiet beauty found in everyday moments.
Clingman’s style reflects the traditions of the old masters, particularly their exploration of light’s transformative power on form and color. He is inspired by the dramatic use of chiaroscuro and by contemporary painters such as Richard Schmid, David Leffel, Sherri McGraw, Gregg Kreutz, Jeff Legg, Leonard Wren, and Albert Handell.
A graduate of Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (1972), Clingman earned recognition early in his career—winning the first painting competition he entered—and has since received numerous local, regional, and national honors for his creative work. He currently paints from his Pin Oak Studio in Bixby, Oklahoma, where he lives with his wife, Kathy.
