Gallery Etiquette
Spiva is a welcoming place and encourage all ages to visit, but there are a few key things to remember when visiting the galleries:
- Don’t touch the art. Touching art is not acceptable in an art gallery unless encouraged to do so during interactive exhibitions.
- Non-flash photography is welcome unless otherwise noted.
- Do your homework. You’re coming to experience art. Do a little research on the exhibition and the artist beforehand so you can understand their stylistic choices and the history behind the pieces as well. We also encourage you to ask the docents questions.
- Keep a safe distance. Especially with installation pieces and sculptures, it’s best to keep a safe distance from them if they aren’t glass-protected.
- No touching (unless the artist specifically tells you otherwise)
Be kind to art and artists. At Spiva we also don’t want you to be afraid of art; just to be aware of how elaborate the process of creating art is: not only does it cost money and require artistic skill, but the creative process is also deeply emotional.
