Description
Join regional artists as they paint outdoors in plein air, capturing the beauty of Joplin – its bluffs and banks along Shoal Creek, the power of water flowing over Grand Falls, and the allure of our parks and our historic buildings and homes. Painting in plein air is about quickly capturing a scene in the changing light and shadows of the day. This weekend-long competition is a fun, artistic landscape adventure for those looking to flex their plein air painting muscles!
Two finished works per participant may submitted for competition and will be presented in the Paint the Ozarks exhibition at Spiva Center for the Arts during the remainder of September. All works submitted must either be framed or wire hang ready on gallery wrapped canvas.
- All artists will be permitted three time-stamped canvases to work with in the duration of the competition (18×24 size limit). Artists may bring their own, but small canvases will be available for purchase, if needed. Any painting medium may be used.
- Check in will begin Saturday, Sept. 9 (8am) at Spiva Center for the Arts.
- Participants may pick up their Paint the Ozarks Information packets and totes at check-in, but information will go out via email one week prior to the event.
More than $1,500 in cash prizes will be awarded in the competition, including the Steve & Diana Graddy purchase prize for one of the competitors.
This event is presented by Spiva Center for the Arts
Paint the Ozarks totes are optional and only guaranteed to those who preregister by August 26th!
