Andy Thomas

The intriguing blend of action, history, and a wide range of subjects is what brings us to Andy Thomas. His art tells a story that may be a family gathering or a bear fight. His oils can take you to another era or place, which earned him the title of “The Storyteller”.

His art journey began when he started drawing at the age of three and competed in local art shows during his adolescent years. In 1991, his full-time professional career began with national shows and competitions, and he eventually stepped into the western art scene at The CM Russell Art Auction in 2006. It is here that his unique western style brought action and movement into modern-day western art. Andy is an original 2013 inductee into the CM Russell Museum Skull Society of Artists which recognizes living American Western artists whose work celebrates the themes and tradition of Charles M. Russell (1864–1926).

Among other historical subjects, Andy also documented the American Civil War and has collections in many national and state parks, including Stone’s River and Pea Ridge.
His work is collected internationally by private and corporate collectors. Many museums across the nation have his originals in their collections. Locally, you can see his work at the Carthage Civil War Museum and the History Museum on the Square in Springfield, Missouri. Nationally, but not limited to, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, the James Museum of Western Art, the Gilcrease Museum, and the Pierce Museum of Western Art. His images have been used in educational books and films as well as books throughout the world.
