PAINT THE OZARKS
WORKSHOP WITH LARRY DEGRAFF Sept. 9, 9am-4pm
PLEIN AIR PAINT OUT COMPETITION Sept. 10, 9am – Sept. 11, 4pm (judging at 4pm)
Join regional artists as they paint outdoors in plein air, capturing the beauty of Joplin – its bluffs and banks along Shoal Creek, the power of water flowing over Grand Falls, and the allure of our parks and our historic buildings and homes. Painting in plein air is about quickly capturing a scene in the changing light and shadows of the day.
This event will kick off with a pre-competition workshop taught by award-winning painter and event juror, Larry DeGraff of Kansas City (registration fee of $120). Location of the workshop will be Mercy Park (Shelter #1 – near pond).
The fee for the paint-out competition is $35 ($25 for members of Spiva Center for the Arts and the Joplin Regional Artists Coalition). Finished works will be presented in a Paint the Ozarks exhibition at Spiva Center for the Arts during the remainder of September. More than $1,500 in cash prizes will be awarded in the competition, including a $500 purchase prize for one of the competitors. Competition t-shirts are available for an additional $5, and only guaranteed to those who preregister before August 27th.
